Chemical foaming agent manufacturer Bergen International LLC recently doubled its manufacturing capacity, added an extrusion line and laboratory space with the opening of a new 45,000-square-foot facility in Elgin, Ill.
The Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.-based company purchased the building last year, according to Chief Financial Officer Richard Long, and has spent much of the year building its capabilities to handle more business.
“Our business grew so much that we needed additional manufacturing space,” Long said in a telephone interview.
He said the company moved from a 20,000-square-foot building in the same industrial park in Elgin.
Bergen’s chemical foaming agents are used in many different plastic applications such as pipe, profile and sheet extrusion; injection, structural foam and rotational molding; blown and extruded films; wire and cable extrusion; blow molded containers; and polypropylene ribbon extrusion.
“We’re always developing new products,” Long said. “When we find a new customer, we look at their processes and can create something that fits the customer.”
Bergen was started 15 years ago in Rochelle Park, N.J., and currently maintains its headquarters in Hasbrouck.
Long would not detail specifics about the new machinery in Elgin, but he noted that they include a new extrusion line, an updated material handling system, and a new laboratory. The company also increased its production, lab, shipping and receiving staff.
