BASF Polyurethanes GmbH has introduced an anti-static polyurethane granular masterbatch. Elastostat is a permanent anti-stat that does not require specific ambient conditions such as humidity, claims the Lemförde, Germany, firm. The product processes easily and is highly compatible with standard plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and ABS. It takes on the color of the plastic in which it is dispersed. BASF said usage levels vary from 7.5 to 15 percent by volume for the masterbatch. Properties are minimally affected, the company claims. BASF said in a news release that Elastostat is particularly suited to industrial packaging made of polyolefins that protects combustible materials. Big bags and plastic drums or cans could benefit from the anti-stat and could lead to replacement of intermediate bulk containers. Other potential uses include pipelines, hoses and conveyor belts to prevent electrostatic charges in material transport. Automotive interiors and electronics packaging are other target markets. BASF introduced Elastostat at June 25-26 news conference to highlight its innovations featured at the upcoming K 2013 trade show. Tel. 49-5443-12-2559, email anja.oltmanns@basf.com. | |
